Post 49: Conclusion

To conclude this project i believe that the experience of creating a music video has fueld the want to vhoose this as a career path. I enjoyed composing all the research too the video and comeing up withe idea. I want thank my friends for their help. I feel that the process of the overall product was highly sucesfull. Thankyou

Post 48: Analysis

Question 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products

The scene that I shall be analysing is the first scene. This scene kicks off the video and is also where we have a POV shot looking at the lights. I feel that this challenges forms and conventions because most videos that you see on mainstream music video stations don’t start with pov shots looking at scenery. It’s sped up in order for there to be a pace that is set for the video. If it was slower I feel that this would of set a more mature mood for the video as slow conveys the sense of sadness where as the speed makes proceedings fun and bouncy. Shot in black and white, looks classy. Also with regards to the lighting i took influence from my favorite band Green days when i come around

The direct inspiration from this video is the scenes which involve the highstreet being sped up. It makes the pace feel fun and fast and then launches you into the next scen which is also in my video.

The next scene I’m analysing actually comes straight after the POV shot looking at the lights Graffiti Shot in a particular effect. This is just an establishinng shot and also serves a part as a pallet clenser and also its not typical for music videos too sudenly swich style. Especially in this case because its a random effect that happens once within the video

Scott is sitting by the wording that says I’m just a misfit. I like how the scenery sums up the scene. In most music videos with a story, the scenary doesnt usally convey the story or backstory of the video

The scene where our protagonist is standing there with the camera closing in, I feel ads a form of insight as it feels like we're getting closer to the character. This deviates from convention because music videos have a series of stationary shots to obtain the the characteristics of the protagonist.

The scene where the second robot is chasing the protagonsit up the hill deviates from convention because there commonly isn't this much cross country action happening in more mainstream videos with story. The only other video that really has this aspect is by the beastie boys and it's called sabotage

All the action conveyed in these videos are hand held meaning the accesability for freer shots can be made. Whilst my video doesnt have the same speed i feel that all the way through you have a menacng chase combined with a comic atmosphere as in both of these videos

The dropkick is in slow motion in order to obtain an epic fight scene simillar to martial arts movies. Also in regular motion this scene did'nt seem very strong and therefore didn't have the same impact as it does now. This scene deviates from convention because most music videos don't show violence before the watershed.

Whilst this scene isn't completely radical, i have opted for there to be shots of both the protagonist and the atagonists so that the audience can obtain some attachment towards the characters. I feel that i orriginally wanted this scene to be grander and more iconic with him standing there, however this proved to be unethical as i had a buisy filming schedule. I still feel that this shot is quite iconic though. In most music videos these establishing character shots are in the begingin however mine are intertwined throughout.

This is one of the more surreal scenes in the video. Using creative license to explain how sinister the hunt for the protagonist has become. Commonly in most music videos, the style wont usually switch from surreal to real however i have decided that for the video too not alienate the audience i incorporated both styles so you can feel comftable whilsts watching.

The last scene i shall be looking at is the scene where the robots run over our protagonist. Commonly in more mainstream music videos, they don't concern acts of death or violence. This scene pushes boundaries because the scene is unconventionally comical by the robots fisting eachother. The only other music video with this type of violence in is by fall out boy for the song sugar were going down. This video helped me decide how i should end my video

The end of this video helped me achgieve what i thought was going to be a difficult. The reason being is whilst i didnt want to run the protagonist over, i did want it to be dramatic. In the video the effectiveness of this scene comes from clever editing, in my video too i have edited it together so that you dont miss out on the story.

Question 2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts
I believe that the culmination of my main product and ancillary texts has created a vibrant and consistent project. The idea of the product was for it too encompass a D.I.Y (do it yourself) aesthetic, this means that my product has the rough and raw appearance. In order for my main product to not entirely alienate the audience I decided to incorporate this rough and edgy appearance into my ancillary texts. I drew the album art and everything within it. The art is meant too represent a kids drawing style displaying an adult issue. It is also meant to represent tongue and cheek humour. The project is not intended to be perceived as too serious. The album art is on the album advertisement; however the advertisement looks more professional in order to appeal to a broader audience.

Question 3. What have you learned from your audience feedback
As of the conclusion, I have learnt that the audience found my product enjoyable and humorous. I didn't change the bideo due to feedback as i hadnt shown it to anyone until it was ready. In retrospect i wish that i had finished the video earlier in order to see if i could change it for the better. However the original concept of the video wasn’t just written with humour, it was meant to be darke and atmospheric and also there was less of a story. The audience found it was the main actor was the reasoning behind the comedy. They liked the charm in the awkwardness too which the actor provided unintentionally to my piece. They also enjoyed the surreal aspects of the robots and how towards the end they seemed more human. The audience also thought that the way all the scenes came together was effectively executed in the way that it told a strong, consistent and clear product. Along with all the ancillary tasks the audience felt that my end product was efficient and solid regarding what I had set out too do.

Below are some more thoughts that people had on my video

Question 4. How did you use new media technologies in pre construction and research planning and evaluation stages
I used Blogger in order to chart my progress throughout this project. Without it i wouldn't have been able to collect all my research. All the way through my project i have kept this blog updated, wether it's images, vvideos or just a paragraph to explain my progress. This blog has been uused as an online diary. I have updated it since the summer. I have updated this blog every month.

I used Youtube as a platform in order to search for music videos because without the platform i wouldnt have been able to obtain research for the dos and do nots of making music videos. I have used youtube all the way throughout the project. I have used it in order to research more videos.

I used Photoshop to edit my album cover, using varied effect to obtain my desired effect. I only used photoshop about four times just playing around with effects. I stumbled on the effect for my album cover by accident and decided it looked good

I used Fireworks to create the album advertisement. I used fireworks because it is a easier platform to compose advertisements, magazines ect. I used as opposed to photoshop because fireworks has the necesary tools to convey what i believe looks like a proffesional album advertisement. Its less linear than photoshop and i think its more practical. I only used towards the end of the project and i used it once

I used Windows movie maker to compose a rough idea for my music video. I didnt completely make a rough full lengh video in windows movie maker, in other words i used it in order to test how video editing programme worked so that it would give me a fair idea of what to epect when i worked in a more advanced setting of programe. I only used this programme in the planning stages in this project.

I used NCH video pad in order to compose and edit my video, using different effects concluded in me having what i believe to be a better project. Without the effects i wouldnt have been able to slow down, speed up or completely change the video. Also without the effects, the video would have been very mundaine and therefore i would not have been able to convey a surreal sensability and also i feel in that respect that people would not have been able to take the video seriously.

Question 5.Create an image board of all the new technologies you used
